The referenced pay range represents the first and last step pay rates for this job, as set forth in the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Individual pay will be set in accordance with terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities

Repairs and maintains buildings and most utility systems and equipment; performing a variety of services and skills, including repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment, machines and facilities.

Supervision And Direction Received

Under general supervision of departmental administrator, with delegation to appropriate supervisory personnel.

Schedule M-F 7:30 AM-4 PM; OCC WKNDS/HOLS Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY: Assists in repairing and maintaining buildings, and most building utility systems and equipment performing a variety of tasks using some independent judgment. SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION RECEIVED: Under immediate supervision of a University administrator, Working Leader, or the like. May receive direction from a Building Mechanic 'A'. SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED: None. MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED: Hand tools common to the mechanical, electrical, carpentry, tile, plumbing, and other building trades. Occasionally uses some power tools such as saws, drill presses, and the like. TYPICAL DUTIES: - Repairs many of the simpler types of mechanical equipment by replacing parts and adjusting them for best function. Usually handles items such as door closers, door and cabinet hardware, window hardware, curtain rods and cords, venetian blinds, and the like. May handle some more complex items and may make duplicate keys. - Repairs electrical and plumbing lines and some fixtures and equipment. Repairs or replaces light bulbs, light fixtures, switches, outlets, ballasts, gaskets, valve packing and washers, faucets, shower heads, and the like. May handle some more complex items in a trainee capacity, under immediate supervision, or as a specialty, though not at the level of a licensed tradesman. - Assists in the repair or replacement of components of buildings such as carpeting, tile, wallpaper, paint, windows, stair treads, roofing, woodwork, and cabinetry. Maintains air handling systems, replaces filters, and adjusts portions of the system. - Receives and answers service requests and trouble calls. May request parts and supplies and assist in maintaining a stock of spare parts commonly used. Conducts preventive maintenance, and performs other duties as directed. QUALIFICATIONS: Requires 1-2 years of experience in the mechanical and building trades, and a High School education, or equivalent.
